UCO Bank opens lockless branch at Shani Shinganapur
January 17, 2011‐ Ahmednagar, Maharashtra
Shani Shinganapur of Ahmednagar, Maharashtra finally got a bank so that 5000-odd devotees who visit the Temple of Lord Shani located here and the residents in the village can access banking services. UCO Bank has recently opened its branch here.
The Shani Shinganapur was opened with great risk by following the customs and traditions of the region. All houses and business establishments in the village do not have any locks. The village has not witnessed a crime in several years.
While the villagers welcomed the opening of the lockless branch, the local police aren't. They worry about the increasing bank robberies and the opening of the bank in violation to the police and RBI norms is a serious matter and hence the DGP and RBI are asked to look into the matter.
Meanwhile, the Bank is considering opening an ATM near to the temple.
