The growth in the Oil & Gas leads to the growth of the banking sector in the region. High oil prices and production further increases this. Banks are seen increasing their branch base increasing deposit base. Consolidated assets of local banks grew by 24.9% y-o-y to reach KD27.0bn at the end of 2006, thanks to the credit facilities to residents growing by 26.3% to KD14.9bn. During the period 2003-06, the consolidated assets of local banks grew at a CAGR of 12.8% from KD18.8bn in 2003 to KD27.0bn in 2006.

The World Economic Forum, in its report - The Global Competitiveness Report 2010–2011, has ranked Kuwait at # 64 in terms of soundness of banks in the country. The rankings moved up to #55 with a score of 5.4 in 2012-13.
